AKAT was founded by Anjali Kataruka in September 2019. Having studied at NIFT, Anjali was trained in the field of Fashion Design and has honed her skills working at various design houses across India over several years. She hails from Purulia, West Bengal where her inspiration was her mother who she grew up watching creating beautiful paintings and artworks.

Akat is the manifestation of experiences onto apparel. The idea is to draw from rooted hearings to create novel, yet comfortable clothing. We deploy the first principle thinking to create originals from the very scratch. The result is - designs that are unique, yet inherently relatable - There's something for everyone.

Akat is an attempt to strike a chord between indigeneity and modernity, and you'll see that in our work. If there are indeed two Indias, Akat belongs to both of them.

We are practitioners of Slow Fashion. Slow fashion is about quality instead of quantity. It also means spending more time on the design process, ensuring that each piece of apparel tells a unique story.

At Akat, shirts have a special place in our hearts. We upcycle each and every piece of fabric and sampling waste into super cool shirts.
